Privacy Policy
Rewind for YouTube is a browser extension that helps you spend less time on YouTube. This page explains what it stores, where, and what it never does. It is run by an independent developer (“I”, “me”).
The short version
- No ads, no trackers, no selling or sharing your data.
- Everything works on your device without an account.
- If you choose to sign in, your settings and daily totals are synced so they follow you between devices.
- I never see or store which videos, channels, searches or comments you look at.
What the extension stores on your device
- How many seconds you spend on YouTube each day, and how much of that is on Home and on Shorts.
- How far you scroll on the Home page (counted in screens) and whether you swipe through Shorts quickly.
- Your settings: restriction level, Auto stages, daily limit, goal, name, and friend codes you have added.
To do this, the extension runs on youtube.com. It only looks at which kind of page you are on (Home, a video, Shorts or other) and whether the tab is visible. It does not read, record or transmit video titles, URLs, channel names, search terms or comments.
If you sign in with Google (optional)
Signing in lets your streaks, limits and time add up across devices, and lets you have friends by username. Sign-in is handled by Google and by Supabase, the service that stores the synced data. I receive:
- your email address (used to identify your account, never to market to you);
- your daily totals per device (the same seconds described above), and your settings;
- a username and display name if you choose them.
The extension does not ask for access to your YouTube account, watch history, subscriptions or any other Google data.
What friends can see
Only people you have accepted as friends can see your current streak, best streak, average minutes saved per day, your weekly average, and which recent days you were under your goal. They cannot see minutes per day, videos or channels. Removing a friend stops them seeing this straight away.
Who processes the data
- Supabase hosts the database for signed-in users.
- Google provides the sign-in.
Nothing is sold, rented or used for advertising, profiling or any purpose other than running the features above. The extension does not load ads or tracking scripts. Fonts and all code are bundled inside the extension.

The Progress and Friends pages have a “Subscribe to Rewind” link to my Patreon page. Nothing is loaded from Patreon unless you click it, and what you do there is covered by Patreon’s own policy.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Data on your device stays until you remove the extension, which deletes it.
- Synced data stays until you delete it. In the extension’s popup, choose Delete account to permanently erase your account and everything synced, including friend connections.
- If you cannot do that, email me at the address below and I will delete it.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how it is used. Use the contact below. I will reply within 30 days.
Children
Rewind for YouTube is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way I will update the date above and note it in the extension’s release notes.
